Back to school lunch box ideas

Getting back into routine and choosing nutritious lunches for your kids isn’t always easy when you have a never ending to-do list.

To prevent your child from getting bored with the same lunch, our nutritionist Marie shares some healthy lunch box ideas which are quick and easy to follow, so you can mix it up and keep your child healthy at school.

It is beneficial to pack one snack and one meal to support their energy levels and concentration throughout the day.

Snacks

  • 1 piece of fruit or diced watermelon, mango, berries, sliced apple, melon fingers
  • Pumpkin seeds and raisins with yoghurt
  • Apricot bites
  • 1-2 oatcakes with hummus and carrot sticks
  • Fruit yoghurt pot

HOW TO MAKE: APRICOT BITES

150g of dried apricots
50g of oats
50g of desiccated coconut
1 tsp Omegabiocell369 KIDS 
1 tbsp of coconut oil

DIRECTIONS

Blend everything together in a blender or food processor for 1 minute. 

Roll into balls and refrigerate overnight.

hummus

HOW TO MAKE: HUMMUS

1 can of drained chickpeas

3 tbsp lemon juice

2 tablespoons tahini 

1 garlic clove

1tsp Omegabiocell369 KIDS 

½ tsp salt

½ tsp cumin


DIRECTIONS

Blend everything together in a blender or food processor.

Seal in an airtight container and keep in the fridge for up to 3 days.

HOW TO MAKE: FRUIT YOGHURT POT 

100ml Live/ Coconut Yoghurt
1tsp Omegabiocell369 KIDS

DIRECTIONS

Mix everything together with a spoon in a small pot and seal well. 

Lunches:

  • Brown rice pasta with steamed broccoli & peas. Add a side of berries and sliced pear.
  • Leftover chicken fajitas (1 wrap, pieces of chicken, thin red pepper slices and a sprinkle of cheese). Add a side of baby tomatoes.
  • Leftover brown rice (fry a portion of leftover rice with 1 egg and mix well, add frozen peas and a dash of soy sauce). Add a side of cucumber sticks.
  • Sweetcorn fritters with a side of hummus, cucumber sticks and sweet potato fries.

HOW TO MAKE: SWEETCORN FRITTERS

100g of frozen sweetcorn
1 can of drained chickpeas
3 tbsp oats
2 tbsp tahini
1 clove of garlic-minced/ finely chopped
½ tsp salt
½ tsp paprika

DIRECTIONS

Blend everything together in a blender or food processor. 

Roll 2 tbsp of mixture into fritters and repeat.

Fry the fritters in a little oil on medium heat for 3 minutes on each side.

A piece of fruit and yoghurt or vegetable sticks with hummus is a good snack option as they are nutrient-dense and contribute towards your child’s 5-a-day!
